DIAMOND SYSTEM for THOROUGHBREDS Sometimes you just have to think outside of the box. But it’s not easy. The obvious answer is also the loudest. People think rationally and the common sense seems to point to the favorite. Sometimes, after I handicap a card, I’ll look over my picks and see that I picked the morning line favorite in 7 races, and the 2nd choice in the other 2 races. DIAMOND SYSTEM EXPLANATION The Diamond Final Rating is a compounded number which balances early speed, final time, and late speed into one dynamic rating. Because of the way the rating balances pace, the top ranked horse is not always the top speed rated horse. For example, lets say that a horse that normally runs a Beyer around 88 or 90 points gets used in a fast pace duel and loses by 7 lengths, earning a Beyer speed figure of 80. The Diamond System will take into account the horse’s early energy expenditure. Consequently, while the horse may not look good to the speed handicappers who rely on speed figures, it could very well have the top Diamond Final Rating. This is how you get longshot winners! The Diamond System is very easy to use. You just download the file, expand it, and run the program. You can use one of 3 automatic paceline options and it picks the paceline for you. All ratings are automatically adjusted for track variant. Shippers are automatically adjusted, and there are also built in adjustments for distance changes.
